David Ortiz aka Big Papi, is a Dominican retired Hall-of-Fame baseball slugger, best known for his time on the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz found that cannabis relieves physical pain and reduces stress. His experience with cannabis has led the slugger to start a cannabis brand, Papi Cannabis, to provide the same relief to others in Massachusetts and remove the stigma surrounding the kind plant.
Sweet Sluggers, Papi Cannabis’ launch product, are pre-rolled 1 gram blunts featuring David’s choice strains like Black Mamba #7, Lava Cake #7, Motorbreath #15 and Bootylicious #4. They’re packed full of flavorful terpenes, high THC, and rolled in non-tobacco blunt wrappers produced with tea leaves and hemp. They will be available as a single 1 gram pre-roll blunt packaged in a dube tube made of 100% reclaimed ocean plastic or a convenient three-pack complete with a box of Papi Brand matches.
Available individually and in 3-blunt packs, the packaging features a yellow background on the front with a pattern of blue and red triangles reminiscent of baseball bats with the circular Papi logo on the flip top. Inside the multipacks, an insert holds a pack of long matches and three blunts, while the individual blunts come in conventional pre-roll tubes. An image of David Ortiz by his daughter Alexandra dominates the back panel of the multipack. Branding and packaging were designed under the direction of Tom Schneider, CMO of Revolution Clinics and Papi Cannabis’ partner, alongside the agency Eat Drink Media Group.
“I’m a huge believer of medical cannabis and the power of healing and all the stuff that comes along with it. As you guys know, I retired like six years ago, and man, cannabis has been amazing for me, for my pain relief, my stress,” Ortiz said at a press conference.
Papi Cannabis will be available in select dispensaries in Massachusetts soon.
